The one-cent tax would fund improvements to school facilities, creating safer, modern learning environments, while lessening the burden on homeowners by offering an alternative funding source for local schools.<\/span><\/p><h4 style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #780000;\"><b>Where Revenue Would Come From<\/b><\/span><\/h4><p style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">It\u2019s estimated <\/span><b style=\"font-size: 16px;\">nearly 60%<\/b><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> of the one-cent tax revenue would be generated by <\/span><b style=\"font-size: 16px;\">visitors, commuters and non-residents of Tazewell County.<\/b><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> Items not currently subject to sales tax\u2013 such as groceries, medications, vehicles, farm equipment, and services\u2013 would not be taxed under this proposal.<\/span><\/p><h4 style=\"font-family: Poppins, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><span style=\"color: #780000;\"><b>How the Funds Would be Used<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/h4><p style=\"font-family: Poppins, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: inherit; font-size: 16px; font-family: inherit;\">By law, the revenue generated by the one-cent tax would be dedicated to:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Facility improvements<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, such as roof repairs, energy efficiency updates, renovations, durable equipment, and new school buildings<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Safety and security improvements, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">including fire prevention<\/span><b>, life safety measures, school resource officers, and mental health services<\/b><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Paying off facility bonds and\/or providing protection against possible future property tax increases.<\/b><\/li><\/ul><div><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/div><div><h4 style=\"font-family: Poppins, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #780000;\"><b>Local Control over Funds<\/b><\/span><\/h4><\/div><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If approved, Tazewell County would maintain <strong>local control<\/strong> of how the funds are distributed and utilized. Each school district in Tazewell County would receive funding based on the number of students enrolled and decide how to allocate funds to meet their school community\u2019s needs. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A breakdown of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1zHdExVdC1M-fln6Hyi_pB2qltQBRuUzVsAKPLuIWk5k\/edit?usp=sharing\"><span majority of counties in Illinois. When Tazewell County residents shop and dine in these counties, they are supporting those local schools.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If approved, this would provide an additional revenue sources that moves the burden away from property tax payers.
